"We define the mission ourselves"/ Interview with Grupo Finca

Cuba is frequently in the international spotlight, mostly in connection with politics, migration, and economic isolation. For decades, economic constraints and political structures have shaped daily life and, consequently, the built environment. While state investments flow into tourism and prestige projects, many neighborhoods, especially in Havana, are characterized by decay and self-reliance. Residents organize, repair, and expand their living spaces themselves. Architecture emerges as a social process. Collectives like Grupo Finca address precisely this point: They work beyond traditional commission models and understand architecture as a communal practice that makes social processes visible and actively shapes them.Â
